We are debtors to God
By Nick Bibile
Romans 8:12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according
to the flesh.
Sin is not only a crime against
God but also a debt that we owe to God. You may ask me, how can I owe God a
debt? I don’t owe any money to God. Let
me explain in simple human terms. If I have a new expensive car and you
borrowed it and, you damaged it that I cannot use it anymore, then you owe me a debt. Now let us make that into spiritual
terms. Because of our sins, we have injured God as sinners, God is the injured
party and we have offended God. As God is the injured party, we owe him a debt.
Remember Jesus how Jesus told us
to pray, and it also says,
Matthew 6:11 and forgive us our
debts,
See below as Jesus cancelled the
debt we owed, as he nailed it to the cross!
Colossians 2:13-14 God
made alive together with him, having forgiven us all
our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood
against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Jesus said, ‘it is finished’ yes
my beloved, Jesus paid the debt that you and I owed. He satisfied God’s justice
at the cross, the account is settled, Christ did it all for you and me. So what
does you and me owe to Christ? LOVE!
Think about it, he died on your
place, what do you owe? LOVE
He forgave your sins, what do you
owe? LOVE
He gave you eternal life, what do
you owe? LOVE
He is coming back for you, to
take you to heaven, what do you owe? LOVE.
How can you love Him?
John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
John 14:23 If anyone loves me, he will keep
my word,
John 14:24 Whoever
does not love me does not keep my words.
My brothers and sisters, the debt
we owed to God was an infinite debt as God is infinitely Holy,
it was a debt that we couldn’t pay, when we were in serious trouble, the Savior
came into our assist, he took the punishment on our behalf and the debt was
paid, and the Father was satisfied. Now it’s our goal and our focus to love him
in obedience.
