The Holy Scriptures

Chapter 3

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

What do you mean by all scripture is breathed out by God?

It means scriptures contain spiritual life. The word of God has power, God created the heavens and the earth by his word.

Give a good example, the power of God’s word?

When Lazarus was dead for four days, Jesus called Lazarus with a shout and the dead man became alive

When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” 44 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.” (John 11:43-44)God is a living God and his word contains life.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. (John 6:63)

There is power in God’s word, Jesus calmed storm by rebuking the wind.  Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead by his word.

Scriptures are not just empty words, but contains life

For it is no empty word for you, but your very life, and by this word you shall live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess. (Deuteronomy 32:47)

The word of God can raise the dead sinner alive.

 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:2)

 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved (Ephesians 2:5)

Scriptures contain soul food.

But he answered, “It is written,

“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
    but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”  (Matthew 4:4)

Scriptures contain the truth and the truth will sanctify us.

 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. (John 17:17)

Why the scriptures called ‘canonical’?  Meaning rule of faith.

Scriptures are the measuring rod; all things are measured and judged according to the scriptures. Scriptures cannot conform to man’s traditions, man’s opinions, and man’s agenda as scriptures are from heaven. Scriptures shows the Credenda what we are to believe and the Agenda, what we are to practice.

Jesus said, You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!  (Mark 7:9)

Scriptures are not corrupt

There are some who believe there are some flaws in the word of God, so they will twist and bend the word of God and add their own opinions to fix their agenda. However the Bible itself gives the answers.

the precepts of the Lord are right,
    rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
    enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean,

    enduring forever;
the rules[d] of the Lord are true, (Psalm 19:8-9)

It is impossible for God to lie

so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. (Hebrews 6:18)
