Lazy Evangelism

By Nick Bibile

When I was having my breakfast in a cafeteria in the city last week, two young girls approached me and they wanted to share the gospel to me. I commended them for having the boldness to go our and share the gospel.

However when I told them I was a believer, they were not satisfied, then instead of sharing the gospel, they wanted me to attend their church. When I told them I am a pastor, yet they were not satisfied as they really wanted to me to attend their church. (A Christian church in the city)

This is the problem with the church evangelism today, it is promoting the church instead of Christ. I hear that some will do evangelism not even carrying a Bible as they go and ask unbelievers to attend their church, instead of inviting Christ and giving the gospel. This is lazy evangelism. What happened to old style of evangelism using our Bible? Their goal is to invite people to their church. It’s promoting the denominations, not preaching of the gospel.

Mark 16:15 Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

Apostles continued to preach the gospel. (Acts 14:7)

Apostle Paul was not ashamed to preach the gospel (Romans 1:16)

1 Corinthians 9:16 Apostle Paul said, “woe unto me if I do not preach the gospel.”

In my personal view, there is nothing wrong to invite an unbeliever to church after they hear the scriptures, your motive and goal should be Christ, salvation not promoting a church.

Romans 10:13-15  for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[f]

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?
